Welcome to
The word Pāpā in Maori means flat, and moa, raised - so Pāpāmoa means "raised beds for growing vegetables on the flats."
With 125-kilometres of pristine coastline, it's fair to say that the Coastal Bay of Plenty really does offer, well, plenty!
Just down the coast from Mount Maunganui, Pāpāmoa Beach is a destination in itself. The fastest-growing suburb in Tauranga, Pāpāmoa, is blessed with 16-kilometres of exquisite uncrowded beaches, dining and shopping options rivalling its nearby neighbours, and fantastic walking tracks providing some of the very best views the Coastal Bay of Plenty has to offer.
Unrivalled and uninterrupted, the views from Pāpāmoa Beach are absolutely worth the early rise! Caffeine connoisseurs will love the top-quality coffee and brunch spots dotted throughout the area. After a little retail therapy? You'll be spoilt for choice at Pāpāmoa Plaza and Fashion Island, located a few blocks back from the beach.
Enjoy the great outdoors? Take a drive to the base of Pāpāmoa Hills Regional Park and walk to the summit to soak in the views. There are plenty of trails, some of which will take you right to the top, where you'll be able to soak in 360° views of the broader Bay of Plenty.
Once an elaborate system of Māori pā sites (fortified settlements), the Pāpāmoa Hills still show signs of terracing on several of the sites as you wind your way up the hill.
In the lead up to Christmas, you're also able to pick your own boysenberries from an orchard at the base of the Pāpāmoa Hills - not to be missed while you're visiting the fruit bowl of New Zealand!
