The Featherston Golf Club has been in steady decline for the past few years so when the management team decided to engage with Real Estate Agency, Property Brokers, the decision has been made to reluctantly put the Golf Club on the market for sale after no other solution was found. Property Brokers’ Sales Consultants Erin Nesdale, Benn Milne and Stephen Penn have explored multiple options to help the Featherston Golf Club over the past year including subdividing the land into lifestyle sections however, due to local and regional council opposing consents, this plan did not go ahead.
Whilst the Wairarapa real estate team are passionate about saving the course and will be doing their best to sell this property as a golf course to retain the local history, there are other options available for the land says Property Brokers Rural Sales Consultant, Stephen Penn. “We remain realistic and understand with the wide range of land use that this 32-hectare block could suit a local rural buyer” says Penn. “It would be a shame for not only Featherston as a community, but to all past and present members to lose such an iconic course” says Erin Nesdale.
Lifestyle Sales Consultant Benn Milne is determined to leave no stone unturned in the search for the perfect buyer and feels that a syndicate of buyers or a single investor would be the ideal purchaser for the golf course to run as their own business. “With 390 courses and 105,000 members nationwide, Erin and I have started making calls already. The financial position of the Featherston Golf Club does not appear to be an isolated incident and seems to be a problem facing a number of clubs throughout the country” says Milne.
The Featherston Golf Club is set on a manicured 32.82 hectares and the options for land use on this fertile, well contoured block are various and could also include dairy support, cattle or lamb finishing, cropping, supplement production or even as a larger lifestyle block.
The Featherston Golf Club was established on Gum Grove farm nearby in 1902 and moved to its present location off Viles Road in the 1970’s in a deal organised by Guy Brandon. The course on Soldiers Settlement Road still bears his name – Brandon Park.
Tender closes Thursday 27th September 2018 at 4.00pm.
