Te Puke Truffles, black gold
Not just a slice of heaven, this property is much more. It is a lifestyle choice that has two established income earning businesses. An established proven Truffiere (truffle orchard) producing the sought after Black Perigord Truffles (black gold) is the focus. A popular tourism venture provides insight to the mystic intrigue of the Truffiere. In addition, Truffle cottage hosts a boutique Bed and Breakfast venture. A lovely home with great outdoor living is warm and sheltered, with entertaining done on the covered back patio nestled into a tropical garden setting backed by native bush. This very unique, special property of 6.9 ha consists of a 0.5 ha Truffiere plus approx. 1.5 ha in flat grazing and approx. 3 ha in pristine covenanted native Rewarewa forest with a river boundary, this being host to a huge variety of native birds and even has visits by a male brown kiwi. Oaks and hazelnuts were planted in 2008 over 80% of the trees have now produced truffles and each year since 2015 they produce black Perigord truffles every winter. In 2020 and 2021 the total weight lifted from the producing trees was over 90 kgs per year. More than 1500 surface Truffles have been identified this season to date indicating this winter's harvest will be the best in both number of truffles and total weight harvested. As well as sales to chefs, the truffles are sold to many individuals throughout New Zealand and a few overseas. One a small boutique company that makes truffle butter and a company that makes the only truffled beer in New Zealand. The huge increase in visitors to the property has come about from the uniqueness of truffles and the media coverage Te Puke Truffles has had. In 2022 Te Puke Truffles featured on TV twice. A New Zealand Food Story by chef Ben Bayly was shown in July and country Calendar in September 2022. TVNZ has repeated the Country Calendar program several times and that has generated more requests to visit the property. Everything grows in the semi tropical Bay of Plenty, including many different varieties of fruit, nuts and berries, the list of fruit trees growing on the property is too long to list. Evenings are when our kiwi calls and morepork call to each other. A wander down the river track takes you into the world of glowworms. The river that boundaries the property is the home to several eels and trout. There is so much more to this property. It must be viewed to fully appreciate it. Viewing strictly by appointment with the vendors agent only. Check out the Country Calendar TV Link: https://youtu.be/STdtcA-cFpw?feature=shared
