Hastings

Welcome to

In 1931, most of Hastings was levelled by an earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale and was subsequently rebuilt in the Art Deco and Spanish Mission styles. Take a walk up and down Heretaunga Street, and you'll appreciate the architectural splendour that still stands! The old Opera House is undergoing major renovations and is a real stunner.

Hastings Distillers offers the best of New Zealand gins and Ya Bon, the crème de la crème of bread and pastries. Head to the end of the street, and you'll reach the clock tower and railway, which runs through the middle of the city square and through its water fountain feature. It's a sight to behold!

Enjoy a beer or two at the Brave Brewing Co offering the best of NZ craft beers, all produced on-site. Hastings is around 18km inland from Napier, and these two neighbouring cities are often called "The Bay Cities" or "The Twin Cities."

Hastings is one of the largest urban areas in Hawke's Bay and is also a food and wine production area. In 2010, the city became a walking and cycling "model community," and you'll see why when you get here. It enjoys an oceanic climate, and it's one of the country's warmest urban areas.

Hastings has charm and character and friendly people. The Sunday farmers market is also outstanding; you'll be hard-pressed to find a better hazelnut ice cream anywhere!

Rarely do we see a property that offers such a unique "blank canvas" appeal in a prime location. Situated on a generous 860sqm section, this property bridges the gap between residential comfort and commercial utility. While the 160sqm character home has seen better days, the bones of a great opportunity are right here for the visionary buyer. Whether you are looking to restore, repurpose, or start fresh, the potential for value-add here is immense. In its recent past it has been separate residential flats and a successful Tax Advisory business. The Breakdown • The Land: A flat, spacious 860sqm site with excellent street profile. • The Status: Residentially zoned with a highly coveted commercial use category, offering a versatile range of future possibilities. • The Structure: A 160sqm footprint ready for a complete overhaul or removal. • A True "Renovator's Special". We aren't sugar-coating it - this building needs TLC. It is being sold in "as-is, where-is" condition, and buyers should come prepared for a project. Known issues include: • Roofing: Active leaks requiring immediate attention. • Plumbing: A broken pipe under the floorboards. • Foundation: Requires investigation. Why Buy Here? Location is everything. Positioned on Southampton Street West, you benefit from high visibility for potential business use while maintaining the heart of a residential zone. This is a "land bank" dream or a developer's next win. Auction Details: •Date: 13th February at 12:00PM •Location: Property Brokers, Hastings (306 Saint Aubyn Street West). Bring your architect, your builder, and your imagination.
